How to use the anagram solver
Type the letters in any order. If you are solving a crossword clue marked as an anagram, enter only the letters of the fodder. Use a question mark for a blank tile or a letter you are unsure of, up to two. Results are grouped by length, longest first, so the full-length anagrams appear at the top. Open the filters to require a starting letter, an ending letter or a letter the word must contain, which is the quickest way to fit a crossword grid.
Solve it yourself first
Most anagrams give way to a few habits: pair the vowels with likely consonants, look for common endings such as -ING, -ED and -ER, and write the letters in a circle so your eye stops reading them as a word. Common questions
What is the difference between an anagram solver and a word unscrambler?
An anagram uses every letter exactly once: LISTEN becomes SILENT. A word unscrambler also finds shorter words hidden in the letters. This tool does both: exact anagrams are highlighted at the top, and every shorter word follows, grouped by length.
Can it solve multi-word anagrams?
Not directly. Enter all the letters without spaces and use the results to find one word, then solve the remaining letters separately.
Which dictionary does it use?
The public-domain ENABLE word list of around 172,000 English words, the same list many word-game solvers use. It includes plurals and inflections but not proper nouns.
Is it cheating to use an anagram solver?
For a friendly game, decide with the people you play with. For learning, it is a good way to check your working and to see patterns you missed. Brisk’s daily challenge asks you to solve puzzles yourself, so please save the solver for practice.
